| 261 homes eligible for noise relief
WESTFIELD - Some 261 households near Barnes Municipal Airport will likely be eligible for noise mitigation funding due to the Air National Guard 104th Fighter Wing's pending conversion to F-15 Eagle Fighters. Federal Aviation Authority mitigation, which is optional, includes the installation of sound insulation for standard construction homes, according to recently released draft environmental impact statement on the conversion. The 261 households, however, include 57 mobile homes, part of the Arbor Mobile Home Park off Apremont Way, that can't be sound insulated, according to the draft statement. Mitigation for those properties would likely be FAA purchase and removal, the draft states Officials stressed, however that such measures are voluntary and that the FAA has never condemned or seized land due to noise-related issues.
